Today, the 27th day of December, marks the 27th anniversary of my father’s death. Like many including myself, he struggled with life choices and health behaviors. He was only 62 when he passed, sadly leaving three children and a wife behind. A year before he passed he began to change many of his behaviors for the positive. He told me one of his biggest regrets was not making healthier choices earlier.

Please Don’t Wait

It is never too late to begin to change. We are witnessing daily people change their lives completely by changing the way they take care of their health. Determined individuals from late teens to our 91 year old friend Evelyn are becoming stronger, healthier, and improving their quality of life by taking the daily action to exercise, manage food, and mood. They all started with a first day and most have not been athletes or gym rats. None of them regret the decision to take care of their health.

Now It’s Your Turn

If you struggle to make a health commitment, we understand. Life is hard and taking the first step to care for your health can be confusing, scary, and easy to talk yourself out of. But PLEASE do not put it off as my father did and wish you would have. Your choices today will affect you and those who care for you in the future. Make 2017 your year to care for yourself in a healthier way. If you need help get it. BE YOUR OWN MIRACLE!

Several times during the last two weeks I have seen social media posts of people I know suffering terribly because of the health choices they have made in their lives. Some have had emergency surgeries, others given tragic diagnoses, and one sadly passed away leaving children and grandchildren way too early. I have struggled with so many things in my life so I understand how hard lifelong habits are to change. But I promise changing them will only result in good things. I am so thankful to witness all of the people making positive changes to their lives with the health choices they are making. And it is never too late to begin. I see people of all ages; 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and even 90’s getting stronger, becoming more present with themselves, and managing life in a healthier and happier way. Please take care of your health today. Work on becoming stronger physically, regulating emotions for your health, and having a boundary based plan for food. It is also important to help another person who struggles in some way and to see the things that are good in your life. Do it for yourself. Do it for those who care about you. Do it for for future. BE YOUR OWN MIRACLE!

Make YOUR Own Strength Monday!

Congratulations to Jacqi for attending at least four exercise sessions a week for the last year! This is an incredible feat for someone who hated exercise and who had not exercised for more than a few weeks at a time during her adult life. I’ve had the blessing to know Jacqi for almost twenty years. She is a nurse, single mom, and daughter who puts others first all of the time. While she still is a helper to so many, Jacqi has committed to helping herself become healthier over the last year and the results have been phenomenal. When she first walked through the doors at Miracles Fitness, Jacqi expressed concern over her lack of strength and described herself as weak. Fortunately for her though, her strength is not totally measured in how much she can lift. It is measured in her determination, perseverance, and resiliency. That has led to incredible strength gains with the weights and pounds down on the scale. In fact, Jacqi holds the record for strongest female bench press at Miracles Fitness now! And she is still a full time nurse, single mom, and helper to he father. She has used the strengths she possesses inside to help herself physically which has ultimately helped her mentally and emotionally. At first she gave only thought and focus to her “weakness” and the weight against her, which slowed her progress. When she learned to give energy and focus to how strong she is and not the weight against her, her progress skyrocketed in every area. Now all the weights on her shoulders; in the gym, at work, home, or in life are handled by focusing on her strengths. No less weight on her shoulders, just a healthier way of handling it.. Please focus today on your strengths and how you can work through the weights of life in a healthy way. Manage your mood, your food, and get some healthy exercise. Seek nonjudgmental feedback and support. If you need help get it. Your positive results are waiting. BE YOUR OWN MIRACLE!

I have struggled with so many things in my life. Weight, addictions, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem, just to name a few. I understand how hard it is to overcome lifelong struggles with anything. We are hardwired genetically, socialized, and develop auto-coping skills that are difficult to manage and lead us to less than healthy choices. But it is SO IMPORTANT to at least try to live life in a healthy way. It is not wrong where you are at and please never judge yourself but instead move toward what can make you healthier, happier, and more fulfilled in your life. PLEASE get some healthy exercise (not extreme), manage food with boundaries (not extreme either), and develop the self-awareness to recognize when your mood is healthy or not. Do things to serve others, projects that bring you joy and fulfillment, and stay as strong as you can physically. All are important to our health and overall quality of life. You can change what you struggle with. Perseverance is always the key. If you need help seek it. BE YOUR OWN MIRACLE!

Unfortunately, many people believe that they cannot accomplish  goals because they are “lacking something”  or that something or someone is “against” them such as age, failures in the past, current weight, economic level, environment, family, spouse, physical limitations etc. On the other side of the coin however is the person who has accomplished the goal you are seeking and has had greater or equal “disabilities” that would inhibit the change they are seeking. They were able to accomplish the goal despite the assumption that they are at a disadvantage. Below are some examples:

  • I have tried in the past to lose weight and I have never been able to lose it and keep it off. I am starting to believe that I am just supposed to be this weight.
  • My husband does not support me with my health goals. It is harder for me because he brings all of the bad food into the house and tempts me.
  • My [mother/coaches/teachers/classmates] criticized me a lot about my weight when I was young. I now feel that whenever people talk to me about my weight whether it be doctors, trainers, or friends I automatically feel “attacked.”
  • People don’t understand how hard it is for me. Other people can lose weight and eat anything and I put on weight just looking at food. I get angry at people who are skinny and overeat and feel that it is unfair to me.
  • All of my friends eat unhealthy foods and drink. It is hard to resist and everyone gives me a hard time when I try to eat healthy foods when we are out.

You do not have to surrender to the barriers that you have whether they be physically with genetics or the failures that you have experienced in the past. Beginning today, you can take control of the food that you put into your body and the amount of exercise you do. Many of us have predispositions that lead us to gaining weight easily, impulsive responses, addictions, and other unhealthy outcomes. Please choose to be as healthy as you can for yourself and those who love you! Please choose to have people in your life that will challenge you to be healthier and ultimately happier! Please give energy and thought to only how you can be successful and healthy today! Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift and why they call it the present! BE YOUR OWN MIRACLE!

Congratulations to Marie for making such a dramatic change and positive impact on her life. She has overcome so many barriers and continues to improve daily. Miraculous!
